Ørje Lock amphi - our unique outdoor scene!

A unique outdoor amphitheater, and the only one of its kind!

Ørje locks have a lifting height of 10 meters in total. The locks were built in the years 1857-1860 at the same time as the Strømsfoss locks. The locks are manually operated, just as they were when they opened in 1860. The locks are surrounded by a beautiful, old building environment and on the west side of the locks are the lock master's residence and the lock assistant's residence, both in Swiss style. At the top lock there is a memorial stone to the canal builder Engebret Soot, the country's foremost canal builder. Here in the middle of the historic outdoor surroundings, history unfolds anew. With the water playing a part, more than a backdrop. Immerse yourself in the toil of the wooden floats, experience the magical powers of the water when the sluice gates open in front of you, hear the stream sing and feel the goosebumps rise when the water is lowered and the sluice gate closes for the last time!
